In the Driver’s Seat: Meet Megan, Customer Service Manager at Go-To Transport

BAY CITY, MICHIGAN – January 8, 2019. While our drivers and trucks are often the first things that people think of when they hear “Go-To Transport,” there are many people behind the scenes. We wanted to introduce you to one of those people. Meet Megan, our Customer Service Manager. She’s been at Go-To Transport for about four months, but has a number of years in transportation behind her.

Customer Service Manager, Megan T.

How did your career in transportation begin?

“Since completing college at Central Michigan University, I have worked for a couple of transportation companies. I was at a carrier for about a year and a half, and then a second carrier for 15 years. Then I came to work at Go-To,” said Megan.

Fire up, Chips! How did you learn about Go-To?

“By chance! I heard that Go-To was looking for a customer service person. After learning more about the opportunity and talking to my husband, John, we decided to make the jump and move the family back.”

Thankfully for us at Go-To, not only did Megan join the team, but John did as well. He’s one of our truck drivers. Both Megan and John grew up in the Great Lakes Bay Region in St. Charles and still have family and friends in the area.

“This area is home for us.”

Welcome back! What is a day typically like for you here?

“I schedule appointments, communicate with our other locations, follow up on loads, work through disputes, you name it,” she says. “I came from a 3PL company so now working for a carrier, I have a new understanding for this part of the transportation industry. At my previous job, I spent a lot of time in meetings in addition to my work. Here I am still very busy, but in a different way.”

It sounds like your days are pretty crazy. How do you balance work and the rest of your life?

“My calendar!” she laughs, “but since moving back to this area, luckily I’ve had some help if needed. My mother lives nearby and she often helps with the kids.” Megan and her husband have two children: Blake, 4, and Brooklyn, 3. Both were born in 2014 making them Irish twins.

Oh goodness! I can imagine that two young kids so close in age can be a lot of work.

“Definitely, but they get along well and it’s great that they’ll grow up so close in age. We also have two lab mixes, Miley and Riley. We have a very busy household!”

Riley and Miley.

What do you do when you’re not in the office?

“Mostly try to keep up with the family!” laughs Megan. “I love to shop, hangout with friends and family, the normal stuff.

Do you have any hobbies?

“We just bought a Polaris Ranger. We enjoy activities like four-wheeling, being outdoors, barbequing, and of course, Michigan football. We get together with family and friends and watch the games on the weekends during the season.”

Alright, we’re in the home stretch! Do you have a personal motto?

“I say, ‘It is what it is,’ a lot, but it rings true for me, especially regarding things that I cannot control,” she says. That’s a refreshing outlook to have. You can’t let things outside of your control get you down.

What’s the best advice you ever received?

With a smile Megan responds, “Life is short. Eat the cake.”

I’m pretty sure that any advice involving cake is good. Who is your hero?

“My mom,” she says. “She has always pushed me to be a strong, independent woman and I will pass that down to my daughter. She is one of the most selfless, caring, and hardworking people I have ever met.” She sounds amazing, and she did a heck of a job with her daughter and should be proud!

Last question. What’s your favorite quote?

“I love dogs, so it has to be, ‘A dog is the only person on earth who will love you more than he loves himself.’” I can’t agree with this more, and they sure do.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to chat, Megan
